How to Use Mouthgenics for Best Results: Daily Routine & Tips

If you’ve recently started taking Mouthgenics Dental Probiotics – or you’re just thinking about trying it – you’re probably wondering how to use it properly to get the best results.

And it’s a great question. In fact, this is one of our mostly asked questions, so that’s why we’re writing this guide.

Unlike other tablets, dental probiotics isn’t just something you pop in randomly like chewing gum or mints. Because it’s a targeted oral probiotic, how and when you take it can make a big difference to how well it works.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the best way to take them, so you can get the maximum benefit for your breath, gums, and overall oral health.

1. When’s the Best Time to Take Mouthgenics Dental Probiotics?

The short answer: after flossing and brushing your teeth, ideally in the evening before bed.

The goal is to take it when your mouth is clean and there’s less saliva flow – that way, the beneficial bacteria have a better chance of sticking around and doing their job.

If you prefer taking it earlier in the day, that’s absolutely fine too. In that case, take upon waking up, after brushing your teeth and rinsing.

Twice a day is also completely fine – we recommend twice a day for people struggling more than others.

2. Should I Brush Before or After Taking It?

Always brush before.

Brushing removes the film of plaque and bad bacteria sitting on your teeth and tongue, clearing the way for the good bacteria to settle in.

Taking the probiotic after brushing gives the friendly bacteria a clean surface to colonise.

Try not to brush after taking it – it’ll just undo the work the probiotics are trying to do.

Don’t forget about flossing – flossing is essential for a healthy mouth. No amount of dental probiotics can remove the food particles stuck between teeth or under the pockets of your gums, not even a toothbrush.

Floss once a day, in the evening. Here’s how we’d suggest the most effective way for maximum results, in order (evening routine):

  1. Floss first.
  2. Brush teeth.
  3. Scrape tongue. (Again, essential!)
  4. Take the probiotic, move it around the mouth and let dissolve.

3. Can I Use Mouthwash Too?

Ok – this gets asked a LOT. And for good reason.

The short answer is: it depends.

Most mouthwash products are often marketed as a treatment for bad breath, but it’s actually not very effective; in fact, it can actually be worse.

The reason why most mouthwash products isn’t an effective solution for bad breath is because it kills all bacteria – both good and bad.

Without the good bacteria, you’re more susceptible to infections, inflammation, and other health problems.

Using a strong antiseptic mouthwash (especially ones with chlorhexidine or alcohol), can wipe out the good bacteria you’re trying to introduce.

It’s a bit like planting flowers and then spraying weedkiller over the soil.

So, if you do choose to use a mouthwash, choose one which is not overly aggressive to the good bacteria. And leave a gap of at least an hour before taking the probiotic.

4. How Long Should I Wait Before Eating or Drinking?

To let the probiotics work best and have the most impact, it’s best to avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after taking them.

Let the tablet dissolve slowly in your mouth (don’t chew or swallow it until the very end when it’s small) and give the bacteria time to stick to get to your gums, teeth, tongue, and throat.

5. Extra Tips for the Best Results

  • Let the tablet dissolve — Don’t chew or swallow it whole!

It might be tempting to chew the tablet like a mint, but for ours to work properly, it needs to dissolve slowly in your mouth. This gives the beneficial bacteria time to settle on the areas where they’re most effective — like your tongue, gums, and throat.
Just move it around the mouth and it’ll get smaller (it usually takes a 3-5 minutes). At the vey end when it’s smaller, then feel free to chew if you want to.

  • Scrape your tongue before brushing if you can. It’s a great way to reduce bad bacteria and give the probiotic a head start.

  • Avoid sugary snacks right before or after taking the probiotic — sugar feeds the bad bacteria.

  • Store your bottle somewhere cool and dry away from direct sunlight — a bathroom cabinet is usually fine.

  • Be patient – Most people start noticing fresher breath within 1–2 weeks, but deeper oral health benefits take time.

6. What Results Should I Expect?

Everyone’s microbiome is different, so results will vary slightly. But generally, here’s what to expect:

  • In the first week: You may notice your mouth feeling fresher or cleaner in the mornings.
  • After 2-3 weeks: Bad breath tends to improve, and you might notice less plaque or irritation around the gums.
  • Long-term: With consistent use, dental probiotics can support a more balanced oral microbiome, which may help reduce the chance of recurring issues like bad breath, gum problems, and dry mouth.
